The Bill of rights protects the citizenry from the government by limiting federal power. There are arguments about protecting the minority from the "violence of the majority faction" in the Federalist papers, but the words are not in the Constitution itself.

The Constitution leaves open a great deal to the States and their citizens. As far as I know there is nothing in the Constitution about marriage, same-sex or otherwise. Like health care, it is not a right.
