>>Oh, I know full well. What I said was that I don't understand how a soldier can kill his own people on the order of a tyrant, not that I didn't know it was happening.

>>As far as western civilisations are concerned, the U.S. civil war really wasn't all that civil. The other point is that western civilisations do it too, but they do it on a smaller and more isolated scale.

>The civil war, was just that, a war. It wasn't the same as what is happening in these other countries. If you want to use the civil war as an example, you might as well throw the American Revolution in the mix too.

Agreed it's not quite the same, but whether it is a declared war, or a rebellion or whatever, it usually involves people who would like a modicum of freedom running up against soldiers whose job it is to deny them that freedom.

The American Revolution wasn't Americans killing their own. They were fighting the nasty and alien British under the nasty and alien king.

>I was primarily speaking about today, not over a hundred years ago. I don't recall reading about the US, Canada, GB, France, Italy, etc being involved in genocide such as I cited in the other examples.

That's true unless you include WWII when many countries were turning over their countrymen. Agreed that was not necessarily a government edict, and I suppose it is different. Although, Spain, for example is usually considered a 'western' country, but their record is not so hot under Franco. And that is well into the latter half of the 1900s.
