Technically, yes, but they didn't see it that way. They and the British soldiers didn't see themselves as neighbours and countrymen. I expect that very few of the soldiers were actually not shipped over from England to oversee the colonies. I honestly don't know that for a fact, but I can't see very many of the men living and working in the new colonies leaving work and home to join the British army. Wouldn't they mostly have joined the militia if they joined anything at all? And of course the militia didn't turn on their neighbours, they turned on the British soldiers.
