Thanks for answering Sergey.

First of all I need to get oriented in the alphabet soup of the options. What are they good for or not. Which are basically legacy and not worth using for the first time, if that is the case.

There are two uses I can foresee. First to easily do OS type stuff from VFP apps that do not have a native VFP way such as running PKZIP without getting a black box of RUN command, assigning a letter to a remote drive, etc. I would also like to learn how to do batch files on steroids (Pewershell and what other options?).

Mostly I am confused and would appreciate understanding the "big picture".

TIA,

Alex

There are some many similar approaches for scripting that provide similar services and it is confusing. You just introduced me to "Scripting", but there is also "WScript", "WSH", Powershell, and who knows how many more. Many of them seem to be different attempts by MS over time to get scripting right for javascript, VB, etc. Can you, or anyone else here, provide me with a high level guide and which approach you recommend to use from VFP and which for standalone scripting files that are to be called from windows explorer?
