Well, the way it worked for me, was sometimes, the gun was in plain sight. Other times, I asked the driver to step out and saw the gun on the floor board, or elsewhere. Then other times, I patted the person down, for my own safety, and felt the gun. And finally, many times the guns are found when the officer searches the car, incident to arrest. If we are towing the vehicle, we always inventory the contents of the vehicle, so weapons, drugs, etc turn up then.
