I heard that one more than 20 years ago, but in that version, it was Patty Black and a dog.

Here's a similar one:

A mountain lion is terrorizing a small ranching town, killing cattle and threatening humans. The town decides to hire Roy Rogers to catch the mountain lion.

Roy rides into town wearing a fancy dude cowboy outfit and a pair of brand-new alligator boots he's really proud of. He heads off into the hills, but staggers back into town later that day, all scratched up and bleeding. Worst of all, though, is that his new boots are ruined, covered with teeth marks.

A young boy gets mad and decides to get even with the mountain lion, so, amid protests from the townfolk, he heads off into the hills. A few hours later, he comes back into town, dragging the dead mountain lion behind him.

One of the townspeople looks at Roy and says (you have to sing this part fast):

"Pardon me, Roy, was that the cat that chewed your new shoes?"

(Commence groaning).
