I user is having trouble installing my app on his clean XP machine. Install runs to completion. When he loads the app, it tests whether an instance of a control in mscomctl.ocx can be created (to see that mscomctl.ocx is present and properly registered) and this fails.
I am using Installshield 12 and mscomctl.msm version as supplied, as well as a number of other msms such as mscomct2.msm. When I build the install package I get a "Cannot locate the Visual Foxpro support library" message when the progress list reaches mscomctl.ocx, and then there's a long delay. The build, however, does run to completion.
In the past, MS common controls problems have been cured by installing a version of MS Office, but this user doesn't want to do this (and has no CD drive anyway).
He has tried manually registering a copy of mscomctl.ocx with regsvr32, and while this worked, VFP couldn't create an instance of one of common controls.
What should I trouble shoot first:
(i) this version of InstallShield
(ii) the rogue MSM
(iii) something else
Folk with advice to switch to Inno or some other installer need not answer on this occasion ;)
