Of course, none of his doctors are volunteering any information as far as specifics are concerned so no one knows how many tenticles from the tumor are actually rooted in the brain and what could actually by removed by surgery. I think (assumption based on news reports) the goal was to remove as much as possible to lesson the chances of further complications during the chemo/rad treatments (prevent more seizures).
