I believe I saw an article say that TATA plans to open an assembly plant in th northeast corridor in 2009, they plan to assemble the cars right at a dealership.

GM is slating the release of the Volt in 2010, for a lot of people it will have enough range for daily use without gas. Toyata has delayed the intro of the new prius (battery issues) but also expects that in 2010.

Tata recently bought Range Rover and Jaguar, so it has more distribution options now (as well as more credibility)

I think we will have several viable options within 2 years.
