I think it's not a case of tetrapilectomy (or would it be tetratrichectomy, if we stay with just Greek), but a plainly false statement caused by not really thinking on time.

Driving less saves both gas and mileage, but not necessarily in any particular ratio.

BTW, I've just achieved a new high in savings. Instead of not dining in a restaurant on the corner, I'm now not dining in a restaurant in a posh hotel, which would have cost much more - not only in food, but tips, cab fare, mandatory uniform costs etc etc.
