>I spoke with my Dr. last night. Told me that in Jackson, WY people are still skiing in the backcountry. And I had to break my arm THIS year. Can't even wish I was there making turns. Bummer.

At least you don't get to live just somewhat north of a burning landfill in NC... which they call "wild brush fire". I think it's not just plastic and bristle brushes burning, both tame and wild, but other garbage as well, judging by the smell.
We had the same thing at home, the landfill wasn't regularly covered with soil, so the organic stuff would just rot and build enough methane and whatnot and would self-ignite. The location was selected smartly, knowing the prevailing winds, but there'd be one day every two or three years, when the wind would blow slowly but in the wrong direction on a hot July morning. The whole city would be shrouded in hot stinking fog.
What we had yesterday was not as bad, and at least we could stay inside (an unexpected perk of being a telecommunist), but it actually started the evening before... I don't even want to imagine how nice it must have been for those who lived closer.
