>Until there is competition. However, thinking about it, I am surprised that we demand the oil companies invest in renewable energy/alternative energy sources when in essence, they are researching on behalf of their own competition. Kind-of like asking McDonalds to invest in their competitor. For cars, the automakers are researching and investing in alternative systems which makes sense if they want to keep the business and remain competitive. For the oil itself though, it really should be optional for oil companies to invest in alternative fuel research and development. There is nothing stopping others from doing the same (as the government is) in order to compete with the oil companies.

Exactly right. And I don't mind going after the renwable sources (solar, windmills, etc) as long as people don't block putting them in their back yards. We have to go after ALL the sources, as much as the liberals and conservatives hate it.

One thing I don't understand is how people can be so gung-ho for the "VOLT" electric cars, yet overlook that the Energy to power it HAS to come from somewhere! So either we just burn the oil (which would have been burned in the gas-vehicles that it replaced) at the power plants to make the electric power for the "VOLT", or else burn it in our cars now (Ka-Ching!). Maybe COAL to power the "VOLT" (burn coal at the power plants)???.... but alas... there are those who will crap in their pants at the thought of more CO2 in the air (Global Warming Scare).... So.... we look at the only other practical power souce, NUCLEAR, and there are those who will have a stroke about that (even though it is the SAFEST and CLEANEST form of electric power generation......look at France).

So there we have it. We have a problem until WE as a NATION face this problem squarely in the face and make a move to become Independent of the Oil Cartels. Until then, we are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo up the creek without a paddle......
