Also a good question.

I haven't done that yet, because it would mean altering the way the app works, and I am sure you have worked on jobs where you are maintaining existing apps, and you don't want to alter the code any more than necessary. All I did was to add a couple fields to the existing query, which was working in VFP by the way!

My stumbling block is this: since it does run in TOAD (the Tool for Oracle Application Developers), I conclude Oracle is OK with the query. I mean, that does seem to be a logical assumption, right?

TOAD is running on this same machine with the same ODBC drivers and TNSNAMES.ORA settings and all that.

Thus I am thinking that it must be a VFP problem. But what?
