I prefer not to pay cash to people who do work for me. I think paying by check increases the chances that taxes are paid. So I pay the cleaning woman by check and, in fact, have refused to hire cleaners who want to be paid in cash.

I use cash in stores for small purchases, but that's about it. $100 in my pocket will usually last for months.
