>>I have created a table with 10000 records in Firebird and a simple select * is slow. Over network @ 100 Mbps it takes a long time to fetch 10000 rows. The same is a snap in SQL Server or Mysql and only slightly slower in Postgre.

Try not to use the *

I was comparing the speed of Firebird 2.1 with that of SQL Server 2005, Mysql 5.1 and Postgre 8.3. I have not yet implemented it in my application, because I have serious doubts about the performance of Firebird with anything more than 8000-10000 rows in a table.

Is the performance of Firebird very slow as compared to other databases?
