>>>I don't want dangerous people walking the streets, but if as a society, we decide to throw people away because they commit a series of minor crimes, we're wasting their potential. There are some people whose crimes are so horrible that they need to be locked away where they can't hurt anyone again. But most criminals don't fit into that category and if we ran our justice system properly, I believe most of them can become productive members of society.

>No, not OK. By forming a society, we create a social compact. One of the facets of that compact is that we have a justice system; ours is supposed to both protect society and rehabilitate offenders. We're not doing a very good job of either. It's my contention (and certainly not mine alone) that doing a better job of the second would give us better results in the first.

>More to the point of your message, that's like you saying that if I think we should educate all children, I should form a private organization to do it and keep you out of it. Education is also a part of our social compact. You don't get to pick and choose and only pay for the parts that you like.

There is a difference between trying to educate a young, innocent mind and trying to educate a person who doesn't care to learn anymore.

Conclussion, get them while their still young. WHATEVER it takes to discipline and teach young kids before they get corrupted by liberals. :)
The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.
- Alexis de Tocqueville

No man’s life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.
