Right. All the records have ids eventually. Except when I screw up *g*. Since I use surrogate keys, I don't usually care about them. The ID gets generated when the _table_ is updated. When I'm connecting parent and child records I call the id function in the insert because the buffered table won't have a value otherwise. (I'm mostly not using views.)

Since you're using a grid, I'm guessing you use table buffering...optimistic or pessimistic, right? Are you keys surrogate (sorry if I missed that part).
