Actually, more than exception: my wife makes the dough, and it gets both crunchy at the edges and soft enough in the middle. Not spongy, nor like a cake, just gooood. The same as the dough I met back home, and also in Hungary and Germany. American dough is just too soft - I know that it's to serve the most expensive teeth on Earth, but still, no fun there.
