Having had some interaction with Japanese businessmen as well, I'm sure it was very tricky. They have so many customs which are inscrutable to most westerners. You can offend protocol by presenting your business card (name card) or accepting theirs in the wrong way. They make allowances for westerners but I still often felt I was in a manners minefield. Not my favorite place to be ;-)
