Stores various user-level settings, like MRU lists, window positions etc - but here it's you who is the user. It's the position of every browse, or modify window, along with fonts used etc. In your application, however, almost no use at all, unless you have many browse... preference "prefname" (and that preference is stored in the resource file).

The only known reason is to have a report preview window without the printer icon in the toolbar (so report can't be printed from preview), so you always overwrite the appropriate records in the resource file with the records you prepared. Other than that, I don't see any need for an application to have a resource file.
