Well, this is not an answer: usually, an object should be destroyed at the same level as it was created. This also means (usually) that you know the name of the variable. If you don't know it, it looks like a you have a design "error" somewhere because you don't have complete control over your variables. In the mean time, I agree that sometimes one can have such situations even with a good design, but this is rather rare.
So, what's your scenario that generated this problem?
