Check the ages of most screenwriters whose scripts are produced these days and you will find most of them are under 40, often way under. I know people who have been successful in that line of work and they say you're dead as a screenwriter at 40 unless you're a huge, bankable name. (And some of those hits better have been recent). They also couldn't care less who wrote the original. They all think they can do better, even if it takes six of them ;-)
