As SlashDot points out, they're learning to be local-culture fronts for offshore programmers. When you think about it, that's not too different from what some software project managers do now - they've just skipped learning coding < g > Who needs that, when you can farm it all out to the lowest bidder? < eg >

Seriously, pretty soon the only way you'll be able to tell if a student's learned anything will be to hold invigilated exams in a Faraday cage, following full-body scans for external and implanted electronics ...
