Haven't been here quite a while apparently. This indeed is very bad news. We knew he had cancer, but I got the impression that it was all under control. Wrong impression.

When I had my last interaction with Jim, some months ago, we were officially no longer friends. It's my perception that we have been 'partners in debate' on many occasions. Some months ago his attitude towards me had turned negative. I tried to discuss this with him, but he continued to interpret my words negative and the razorsharp analysis he was renowned for was missing. This made me wonder about him, esp. about his personal situation. Using morphine or some other analgetic drug could explain a lot. But asking in a PM wasn't an option. It would have been too much of an intrusion in his personal space.

It's a real pity that the therapy has failed or was too late. I'll gonna commemorate Jim as the partner in debate and the online friend that he was all those years. Jim, we'll gonna miss your fine whines.

>I'm afraid it's the worst sort of news. Jim passed away., I don't know the exact date, but the apartment building superintendent thinks it was cancer.

Constructive frustration is the breeding ground of genius.
If there’s no willingness to moderate for the sake of good debate, then I have no willingness to debate at all.
Let's develop superb standards that will end the holy wars.
