>>>>More than half, actually, John <g>. I read a striking quote from Ed Rollins, the top Republican strategist, just last night in an article about the waning conservative movement. "If you aren't rich, Southern, or born again, the odds aren't very good that you're Republican," he said. Polls bear out that the U.S. is less conservative than it was even a few years ago. IMO you can definitely point the finger at Bush and Cheney's mismanagement for that.

>>>You are discounting the Reagan Democrats and the new Hillary Republicans. So, there's another 50%. What are we up to now - 200%?<g>

>>One of the assertions of the article is that the Reagan Democrats have mostly drifted back.

>>What are Hillary Republicans? That sounds doubly scary <g>.

>That's a neologism. I just made it up. But, it speaks to the disenfranchised (don't you just love that word) Hillary voters who will vote for McCain because - "Hell hath no fury like a bunch of scorned Hillary, would-be voters"

Most of them will come around. All they really have to do is look at McCain's positions and ask themselves if they want another President who is for the war in Iraq, for more conservative judges, against abortion, etc. It would take an awful lot of pique to vote for him anyway, or even to stay home in protest.
