>I honestly don't get this view of the NY Times as some left wing attack machine. Not even sure what more to say about that.

Not a left wing attack machine and for the most part full of very credible new people. The editor is not a credit to the tradition of the NYT as the newspaper of record and the editorial selectivity of how the editor chooses to cover things becomes at times blatant.

>What is Project Runway? A TV show, obviously. Never mind, I just asked Emily. She said it's a contest like Tyra Banks's show except the contestants are fashion designers instead of models. Sounds riveting! <g>

Actually it is. It's about process. I find it particularly interesting in that I know nothing of the profession or the weltgeist it operates in and don't take the fashion industry very seriously while recognizing there is a whole lot of money involved. But since it is a visual medium you can hear the assignment, watch the process of attempting to meet it (often with great creativity and ingenuity) and then listen to the comments and deliberations of judges who actually do understand the industry as an aethetic and a business. Kind of a hoot. Top Chef is another one, but since you can't actually taste the food you have to go by look and description by the gourmet judges.

Actually kind of fun.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
