I was an Ombudsman for a couple years at a local nursing home that had a population of a couple hundred.
If it were possible to visit just one individual and ignore everyone else, it might make you feel better to bring a little sunshine into his/her life. But, I don't think that's possible.
I rarely get depressed, but that period of my life has to be the most depressing period of my life. So many people need you....you feel so helpless, even though there are many rewards if you can stick it out.
>One of the best strategies for people suffering depression is to get them to help someone else, who is worse off. That takes the focus off the depressed person, and puts their focus on something positive. You might try visiting a nursing home where some little old lady sits alone in her room all day, just waiting on the box. What a miserable existence, to live only to die.
