As Doug said very correctly, depression is often a chemical condition - no more shame should be attached to it than diabetes or migraines. Fortunately there is some amazing stuff out there to recreate the chemical balance. My wife is both a clinical therapist and suffers from severe chemical depression. Anti-depressants have made all the difference in helping her be who she *really* is (and I know I'm right about that - I've known her for almost 50 years ) and as a therapist the first thing she will do is to advise someone to get the chemicals balanced first.

Sure, there are lots of issues that may be helped with therapy depending on the person, how lucky they are in finding the right therapist, and their own personality makeup, but the chemicals just plain work and get you on a level playing field with everyone else and give you some breathing room to see the joy of life.

You're not alone in this, even when it feels that way. See a doctor who cah deal with those things that may very well be physiological.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
