>"Conclusions: The use of illicit drugs and a history of physical fights in the home are important risk factors for homicide in the home. Rather than confer protection, guns kept in the home are associated with an increase in the risk of homicide by a family member or intimate acquaintance." Shocking, who would've thought that?
That gives the same old meaning to the phrase "packing the heat of the moment". Gun is too fast - even knives or axes give one a chance to count to then and think of what they're doing, and also give the victim some time to talk them out of it. With a firearm, the victim knows it has to react fast, and the shooter knows what reaction to expect and acts even faster - no time to think and release some of that tension. So they release the trigger instead.
