But you have a daughter. I suspect that binds you with tighter bonds than a husband ever would.

I don't recall if I ever mentioned it before, but I used to believe that the perfect marriage would be between a sadist and a masochist. Then I realised it wouldn't work. The masochist would beg, "Beat me! Beat me!" and the sadist would say, "no".

>>I want to be able to come home in the evening and have my time to myself to do whatever. If I want to sit at the computer for an entire day, I don't want somebody tellling me I should be doing something else. If I want to go to a ballgame, I don't want somebody telling me I'm supposed to have dinner with relatives.
>>
>>>The key is, when you love someone more than yourself, you are not only willing, but happy to compromise. Unlikely to happen to narcisists though... (oops I just read that and it came out all wrong. I'm certainly NOT implying you are one) :o)

>>>>>>Speaking only for myself, I'd never sign a prenup whether if favoured me or not. I guess I'm a bit old fashioned, but I just can't see myself saying to a woman, "I love you. I want to spend my life with you. Please sign this because I'm not sure I really trust you." And anyone who implied the same to me would see me walking away - quick.

>>>>>What's the name for such marriages here, marriages of convenience? In my neck of the... meadows, they are called "marriages out of calculation".
>>>>
>>>>Marriages of convenience sounds about right, but marriages of convenience probably wouldn't last too long - thus the reason for the prenup. Some people simply should not get married. That includes people who have no trust in anyone but themselves, people like me who are extremely selfish and don't want to have to make compromises in how they live their lives day to day. I don't mind giving away stuff, but I've never wanted to have to give away any of my need to be completely on my own recognisance.
