Thanks. That would work here since I know I have versions 9 and 12 (Word 2000 and 2007) but the client workstations could be running 9, 10 or 11.

I could deal with the changes to the commands--wordoptions for options, for example--but the template issue is a big one. These are legal documents and the formatting is crucial; In fact, each document has its own template. I guess I'm really surprised (although I shouldn't be) that in compatibility mode, some of the settings in the template are being ignored.
