>It's ok, if that's the custom. Here, I think most Americans (US variety) bath at least once a day. We also have bathtubs, which I'm told are not the norm in Europe. I prefer a bath, if I've been doing something strenuous, and a shower, if not.

I'd estimate 80% of flats/houses have a bathub, but of those perhaps 10% have 1-seater king size tubs and another 20% have tubs usable for more than one grown up at the same time. Jacuzis probalby less than 3% - you will find more swimming pools than jacuzis. "Normal" bathtubs are fine for warming up after a day on the ski slopes, but for instance if I prepare myself mentally going over arguements I can relax i a king size tub, but not in a "normal" tub. (And no, I am not THAT far away from my sports days <g>)

I think Tracy is also on the right track here: the americans go in the morning with anti-transpirant and deo keeping them almost smell free during the day and directly to dinner / some drinks or something else afterwards. The europeans will shower between work and dinner again to combat starting smell but will not try to alter body functions like sweating as much.

And your daughter probably came at the worst time for the smell thing (which IS real), as even not-so-clean people will learn that showering enhances their chances in smoke free rooms <bg>.

regards
