My motherboard downclocks, slows down the fans, monitors (flat) shut off after five minutes... and with the today's software there's just too much that needs to be updated and checked daily that I simply can't justify the time to turn the machine off and than on again - besides, on every reboot it is rescanned by AVG and the firewall, so it's unusable for about 40 minutes. Since my wife wakes me up at about 8:50... there's no time. And then, my machine is the print server in the house, and it happened quite often that our youngest needed to print her homework in the morning. Nowadays she usually takes it to school on a thumbdrive, but that's quite recent. Until last winter they mostly insisted on printing.
