In 1993 we went through real inflation. Much later, guys tried to flatten the curve to fit it on a graph... and the only way it would become linear was to apply logarithm twice. The rate at which things were going down (or up) was exponential exponential.

A week's salary could fill your fridge on Friday afternoon, but would get you a carton of cigarettes on Monday morning. The trouble was that you needed cash, because nobody would take checks - by the time they got to the bank on Monday, they'd be worthless. And there'd be cash in the bank for maybe an hour or so, then they'd run out of it, regardless of trucks delivering freshly printed money almost every day.

The only way to get rich by forging money would have been to know in advance the design of tomorrow's money, and print it a few hours ahead of the national bank, then go out on the street and buy foreign currency. Which is basically what Sloba was doing (except that he didn't have to try to get ahead - he was ahead) all the way from 1991 to 1994, when he simply had to stop.

What, me reckless? I'm full of recks!
