When you have 2 Vista machines talking to each other, by default they will use SMBv2 instead of SMBv1. Vista talking to anything else (except Server 2008) uses SMBv1.

Last year a locking bug was found in SMBv2 with file-server databases such as VFP and Access: thread#1255593
