It's also a bad historical parallel. To compare the US today with Argentina from '76 to '83 is just meaningless. If you really believe this you either don't know what happened in Argentina during those seven years (which I doubt) or you have a very distorted vision of what is going on here (which is quite possible, given the incredible rhetoric that seems to be accepted as fact thanks in part to Americans seeking popularity abroad by telling people what they want to hear.) Just not good history or political science.

For Americans who are weak on history :

Makes Abu Gahreb and Guantanamo look like Disneyland - and their victims were not enemies of Argentina but their own people.

I am not pleased or proud of the role the US government and intelligence agencies played in enabling Videla and his thugs in the guerra sucia - but it is interesting to note that during a good portion of that period our Nobel Peace Prize winning arbiter of all thing moral was President.

>John, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the USofA has become "the communists and nazis" of the world.

>I know what you are thinking, what do I know right? Well, the government in my country fought "the terrorists" in the 70's, and in the process, the government itself became "the terrorists". We are still paying for that, everyday, 30 years latter.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
