>For several years we've travelled to Brittany via ferry for summer vacation. Usually we came back via the St Malo morning ferry and always stayed the previous night in a particular hotel within the city walls. Always the hotel bill, from Francs, cost c. £68 a night. The year of conversion to Euros the price converted to more than £90. I asked the proprietor why the price had gone up. He just gave the usual Gallic shrug and said "L'Euro".

I have seen lot of it here unfortunately. More or less everything went up. But part of it has to do with
general increase in oil and food prices which people naively attribute to euro, whereas euro actually cushions it a bit by it's strenght.
Other part of it is sheer profeteering.

Goernment here said they are going to sanction businesses which increase prices with Euro. However next day
my carwash was not 5CYP=>8.54 but =>10e (6CYP) Popular takeout food did not convert 2CYP => 3.40E but instead become
4e and so for. So within month or so, cost of living went up arround 10% .

Meny people thing if we stayed with CYPs life would have been much better. But I believe we are all in the same 'frying pan'
with or without euro. Cost of living is 'on the roll' everywhere.

As for french hotel, hey... but that is still much cheaper then UK hotels even u did not switch to euro
(as of just yet<g>)
