>Perhaps the next time I come to Izmir we can arrange it. Max was born in Turkey of course and speaks Turkish with no accent ( good koylu turkce too - he is in the tobacco business ) I am sure you know Levantines in Izmir. ( I am not sure what they are called in Turkish - Europeans whose families have lived in Turkey for 300 years - not exactly yabancilar :-) Of course that community - as well as the Ladino Jews who came from Spain the 15th century - are a good example of Turkey as a mix of cultures which has showed much toleration and friendliness to the European world.

>Also, another favorite restaurant, in Izmir, is 1888. Do you know it? I believe the family that runs it are Ladino and the food is Turkish/Spanish.
I know what you mean. No, I never heard of 1888.
