>Accident when I was about 14 running across the carpet something stabbed into my big toe. Really hurt and I found half a sewing needle on the ground. (the sharp end not the end with the eye) but that wasn't the painful bit. The toe started getting sore and swelled up over the next few days. And the really painful bit came about a week later when running into the house I stubbed that toe on the wall below the door. I can still remember the pain. Turned out the other half of the needle had broken off inside my toe. I still hate it if I find a needle on the floor.

It's odd how pain and the mind work together. When I was about 18, I was playing ball, and I dived into 2nd base, arms out in front grabbing the bag. The 2nd baseman stepped on my fingers, but I was safe. I got up and started to lead off 2nd. After maybe 5 or 6 seconds, somebody yelled, "Your hand!". I looked down and my finger was bleeding all over the place. As soon as my mind acknowledged what had happened (he was wearing cleats), it started hurting like crazy, and they rushed me off the emergency for a tetanus shot.
