Hey Mike,

>>This amazes me that you think it is whining. First, I'm not a Republican. Second, the issue is news coverage of a presidential campaign that is nowhere near what it has been since we had newspapers, let alone video.

>I'm not sure what you mean by the first part -- that the coverage of Obama is unprecedented? Why would that be surprising? For one thing it is a historic campaign, the first time a non-white has been a candidate for U.S.President. There is also the fact he has awakened hope in a lot of people who haven't felt hopeful about presidential candidates in quite a while. (Of course we're all naive idiots, but still <g>).

>As far as my enjoyment of Republicans whining, that was not directed at you personally. Goodness knows there are plenty of others doing it.

I think the point here is that we have polls indicating that the race is very close yet the newsies are fawning all over this guy and not presenting the objective reporting that they are supposed to be doing. Brown-nosing is supposed to be left to the op-ed pages.

A point could be made, I suppose, that he's "special" because he's not white, but even that is bothersome since the color of one's skin or gender is irrelevant to the responsibilities of the job one is running for.

It was the same way with the over-the-top hyperbole when Pelosi was named Speaker. Oh my gosh, a woman Speaker! Historic! Never mind the fact that she's been a pretty lousy Speaker and Congress has done very little under her leadership.

I guess what I'm saying is that I believe the job of the press is to look beneath the skin color and mindless chants of "hope" and "change" and draw out exactly what kind of President Obama or McCain would be. Because that, ultimately, is what counts. It's appalling that the race is being treated as a beauty contest by the press.

Put aside his skin color or the fact that people like him solely because they dislike Bush and listen to his speeches and read his official website. If you're a non-union working stiff who makes over $50,000 a year you should be scared to death of this guy. Especially when he can't seem to keep his disdain for the common American out of his speeches and comments. Mike, you will be hit hard in your wallet by this clown and you'll be a lot less secure because the bad guys don't play the pansy touchy-feely game Obama wants to play. If that's acceptable to you, fine.

We need to see a lot more reporting of what an Obama presidency would really mean and a lot less of his BS speeches and pretty kids.
