>>>Or at least _that_ mall isn't. I think if there were a rash of incidents like this in malls across the country, someone would notice and we'd be seeing a lot of media jumping on it.

>>>Seems to me you're overgeneralizing based on the available data.

>Did you actually read the article you linked? Down at the bottom, they have the actual numbers of various crimes reported over a 2.5 year period. I think we can all agree that a mall is going to have lots of theft (I assume that includes shoplifting). After all, it's full of stores, and they're full of money and things to steal. Only the theft category has any numbers in 3-digits.
>
>Moving on, the next highest numbers is 72 assaults at one particular mall. That's a lot in less than 1000 days, so I'd say that's not a very safe mall, but the next hightest in that category and, in fact, overall, is 26, or only a third as many. The rest of the malls shown have fewer than 20 assaults in 2.5 years.
>
>Frankly, looking at those numbers, those malls (except for Station Square) look pretty safe to me. I'd love to see comparable numbers for a downtown shopping district, or a non-mall shopping district in a residential area.

What a muck you can be. Yes, I did read it. I guess it comes down to what you think is safe/unsafe.
