I went to the Hacienda only once, with a group of people from work. It made me feel pretty unhip. Oh, well, who knows what's lurking inside? I did see a couple of great shows at another place whose name is escaping me. Club International? Away from the Town "Centre" where we were working and staying (CWS / Hotel Brittanica). The highlight was seeing Lone Justice. They never quite made it to the big time but it remains one of my most memorable concerts. Maria McKee was mesmerizing, a 5 foot nothing dynamo on the stage. She sang one in particular called "You Are the Light" that made me think we were witnessing Janis Joplin brought back to life. My buddy Rob said, "They aren't saving it for the encore, are they?" Nobody wanted to go with me to see Steve Earle, screw that country crap, so I went solo. I'm glad I did. He was just hitting the big time and not messed up on drugs yet and brought a sense of Kentucky to the north of England. I even met a nice bird to watch the rest of the show with, always nice when you're far from home.
