Why would someone take $12 million and put it in a vault, where it makes no money whatsoever?

That's bad money management.

Another friend took 12mil from his bank (he left 100,000) and had an underground safe built to store it in. If those with the money the banks play with pull it out (according to them all of their friends are doing the same), it will be a disaster. Many are moving to their money to Germany (Germany will do well when the U.S. crashes).
