Actually, it may be the inverse as the French have IMHO borrowed more english words in their language than us ;)

Montreal is pretty much bilingual (multi-lingual should be more the right term). You shouldn't have problems even if you don't speak a word of french. If you want a more complete immersion, you should also visit Quebec city. If you want real challenge, then go visit the Saguenay and/or the Gaspesie regions. You would have fun trying to deal with the local accents ;)
