When I Set Order To < tag > without explicitly saying DESC or ASCE, sure it remains as it was set with the last Set Order To < same tag > command. That's the reason I needed this, to make sure I restore it.

What do you mean "permanently"? It doesn't write back into index files, and doesn't set anything. When you USE the table next time, the tags are ordered as they were.
