We're cool. I thought we were on the same page about this, which is why my misperception startled me.

In my defense, there are plenty among us who feel little if any sense of civic duty. They consider relentless self-interest a virtue, a guiding principle. A very weird data point in a society that perceives itself as an example to the world.
