Just went with the first option I knew. Thanks everyone for the great advice, both work well. In the current situation, there is not a large set of records that is being processed, so getwords performance won't be an issue. But writing it so that it can be used in a more generic fashion where I might be processing 1000's of records the aline option will probably be used.
