Guy Kawasaki was one of the original Apple Macintosh creator guys, and he had (and still has) a lot to say about user interfaces that work and ones that don't. I've heard him speak on a few occasions and he is quite inspiring, really (don't know him personally, though.) Although these days he concentrates on "how to start and run a successful business" -types of ideas, he is still quite influential in the UI community as well.

My comment was about modal/non-modal interface more than parameter passing :-)
