It woke my mother up, but she's a bit outside the 1.6 km evacuation radius. She said that a huge 'bang' woke her and then the room lit up like it was daylight (a bit before 4:00am). She thought it was thunder and lightning, but she looked out her window and there was no rain. She went back to sleep. We've been having some cracking thunder and lightning storms lately, so it's easy to understand that a lot of people probably didn't pay all that much attention at the time. From all I've heard though, everyone is commending the police, the fire dept, the transit system and the humane society, and the way they all worked together. Not to mention York University where most of the evacuees are being taken by shuttle buses.
