Reports & Report designer
In an application that tracks legal actions, there is a report that displays the names of the Parties and the Attorneys involved in the case. Currently the data is sorted by Case+Side+Party+Attorney with breakpoints on each—pretty simple stuff. It’s fairly common for Parties to have more than one Attorney and this format easily handles that. It is becoming more common for multiple Parties to share the same Attorney(s) (think class action lawsuit or a group of people injured in an accident.) The client does not want to see the Attorney’s names repeated for each Party they represent. Further, they’d like the Attorney(s) names to print first, followed by a list of the Parties the group represents. It’s easy to change the sort order but that doesn’t solve the problem. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to establish a relationship between the group(s) of Attorneys and the group(s) of Parties they represent. The client is concerned about ‘the paper and ink’ that is being wasted—even though this applies to only 1 per cent of the cases each year! But, since ‘the client is always right’ I could use a bit of help.
